  • The last 3 Goldfish left in the Goldfish box
  • Frantically searching for my keys when I should have left 5 minutes ago
  • Plastic furniture
  • French fries with a side of veggie squeeze pack
  • A stack of clean, folded diapers and clothes sitting on the railing at the top of the stairs for days
  • Owning a pair of heels but having no idea where they are
  • The uncashed check, Star Trek pin, children’s book and Ready, Set, Sew! DVD sitting on my desk covered in dust
  • Wind burned cheeks, chapped lips, and tangled hair
  • The persistent smell of poop and the nagging paranoia I’ve got some on me somewhere
  • 4 months of paperwork stacked on top of the shredder
  • Cake that comes from a box
  • Putting something where I’m sure I’ll remember it…then forgetting where I put it
  • Grainy, blurry, poorly lit photos
  • Gray hairs and crows feet
  • Goodbye kisses in the driveway every morning
  • Chipped fingernail polish
  • Belly laughs when my toddler figures out fart jokes
  • A day-old, dried up green bean under the kitchen table
  • Tumbleweeds of dog hair
  • Dust on my make-up bottles and compacts
  • Stepping on half of a plastic Easter egg. In October. Again.
  • Tiny toddler finger smudges on my glasses
  • Magnetic A, B, Cs all over the house
  • Holding my husband’s hand while I drive
  • Debates over what to make for dinner and resorting to take-out because we just can’t decide
  • Forgetting to go grocery shopping
  • A string of abandoned hobbies
  • Counting to make an unpleasant task entertaining
  • Clumps of dirt stuck in the wheels of the stroller
  • A slight Southern twang
  • Snuggling with a plastic big rig that lights up and plays rock music
  • Watching the sun set with your family from the driveway
  • Toy Story over and over and over
  • Finding a spoon on the bookshelf in my bedroom (how long has that been there?)
  • Tiny neon leggings and glittery baby socks
  • Chips, queso and guacamole for lunch
  • Shouts of joy over birds, the moon, planes, and trucks of all kinds
  • The reserve pint of ice cream in the freezer
  • Random piles of junk from my husband’s pockets all over the house
  • Cottage cheese and canned pears
  • Doing a sniff test to see if I’ve put on deodorant today or not
  • Memorizing bedtime stories
  • Rocking in the dark long after my baby is asleep
  • Sunshine
  • Shade trees
  • Emergency caffeine
  • “We’ll unpack those boxes the next time we move.”
  • Cookie monster toothbrushes
  • A husband who bakes and vacuums for fun
  • Year-round flipflops
  • Sweatpants
  • Hitting the snooze button
  • Grumbling about smokers smoking too close to the playground
  • Rubbing my chin on top of my toddler’s head just to feel how soft her hair is
  • Washable marker all over my clothes and hands
  • The clothes hanger that’s been in the back seat of the car for months and I don’t even know where it came from
  • Junk mail
  • Teething tablets
  • Sunscreen
  • Knocking on my daughter’s door first thing in the morning
  • The sound the computer makes when it’s “thinking” really hard
  • Hamburgers
  • Emptying the lint trap
  • “We’re almost there” when we’re really not
  • Finding toys behind and under furniture
  • A hot cup of tea with just the right amount of honey
  • Love. More than I ever thought possible.
