Isla had her 2 month check-up with the doctor. She weighs all of 9 lb. 1 oz. (up from 7 lb. 5 oz. at her 2 week check-up) and is 22 inches long. She’s pretty small, I guess. 10% for weight, 25% for height. Doctor says that her growth is consistent, though, so I guess we don’t have much to worry about. She’s also hitting all of her developmental milestones as expected, so no concerns there.
She also had her vaccinations done today. She really liked the oral one (go figure) and screamed bloody murder over the shots. However, I have to say, I’ve seen her more upset over being put in her car seat. I don’t know if we had an awesome nurse who did a particularly bang-up jo with the shots or if Isla just really hates her car seat. There were no grown-up tears shed, though. (Further proof that we’re robots?) As soon as she had her band-aids on, we nursed, and that seemed to put an end to the crying. She seems to have handled everything pretty well. Maybe a little tired for all of the excitement, but our routine was pretty normal for the rest of the evening, and she went down for bedtime as usual. No fever or fussiness.
All things considered, I’d say we got off pretty easy. I was expecting it to be a lot worse, but the vaccinations were over pretty quickly, Isla seems to be fine now, and everything else was considered a-okay by her pediatrician. Let’s hope the next one goes as easily.
Miles never had much trouble with any of his shots… I think a little bit of fussiness/drowsiness after the 4 mo visit perhaps. But nursing always soothed him so well. I didn’t cry when he got his vaccinations either, I guess I don’t really understand why that upsets some parents? It’s just a quick poke and they’re probably more startled than anything.
Autumn has always been in the 25% for both length and weight. She has stayed there consistently since she was born so there are no concerns…Isla’s just little like her mommy 😉
I find vaccinations are harder to watch now. I don’t cry but I do feel really bad for Autumn because I know they don’t feel good. Luckily it’s nothing her bear and a snack can’t cure.
I guess the weight is just normal for her age. You shouldn’t worry too much. Vaccinations are really hard to bear for a child, but it’s harder for a mother seeing her child cry in pain.
