"17

How Far Along: 17 weeks (pic: 17w1d – I keep getting lazier about doing these. By 40 weeks, expect me to be in pajamas with unwashed hair pulled up in a bun for these.)

Size of Baby as Relative to Common Household Fruit or Vegetable: Mango

Total Weight Gain: I did an official weigh-in on my scale at home a couple of days ago. Down 2 lbs. from pre-pregnancy weight.

Sex: Boy!

Movement: This little boy is definitely going to be another wiggle worm, just like his sister. I can feel more and more kicks and rolls. He never seems to slow down.

Sleep: Waking up several times a night to run to the bathroom, but otherwise good.

What I miss: Mexican martinis

Cravings: Mexican martinis and pho

Symptoms: Some lower back pain and a lot of round ligament pain. I’ve had to start wearing the bras I wore when I was breastfeeding because my regular ones were way too small. My energy is back, which is fantastic. I also feel like I’m starting to move into “Oh, look, she’s pregnant” territory as opposed to “someone ate a few too many tacos” territory. Belly is definitely out.

Maternity Clothes: Yes for pants. I’m still making due with non-maternity shirts as long as I can.

Preparations: We settled on a first name for baby boy, and I sorted through all of Isla’s old baby clothes and gear. We went with fairly neutral stuff with her, so we don’t have a lot to get, including clothes. I started Hypnobabies again at 16 weeks. I’m on week 2 of the home study course, and I’m loving it once again. It’s already helping me fall asleep, and the finger drop technique has come back to me pretty easily. We also got a new washer and dryer, so washing cloth diapers should be a lot easier. I’m excited to be digging back into my fluff soon!

Emotions: Still stressed about work, but I’m starting to get excited for bringing home a baby. Now that I’m starting to look pregnant and feel more pregnant, it feels more real.

PgAL Thoughts: Three friends due around the same time I am experienced late losses in the last couple of weeks. My heart breaks for these sweet ladies who in some cases have already been through so much heartache trying to grow their families, and it’s also brought up a bit of anxiety. It’s easy to feel like you’re out of the danger zone once you get out of the first trimester and people start talking about your baby like he’s a certainty, but then something happens that reminds you so much can still go wrong. It’s hard. Also, our next doctor’s appointment is the anatomy scan, which was not a happy occasion when I was pregnant with Isla. I’ve been worried about it, both because of our history with past anatomy scans and all our losses before this. Hopefully this anatomy scan is a happy occasion, and the only thing that comes out of it are some super cute snaps of our baby boy. I so badly want just one healthy, boring, totally textbook pregnancy.

Best Moment(s) This Week: Some old friends from out of town came to stay with us for a couple of days! It was so fun getting to catch up with them. We also had our 16-week appointment. We got to hear baby on doppler (which we do fairly regularly at home, but the doctor’s is so much better!) and meet the last of the care providers at our new practice. I couldn’t be happier with all the doctors and midwives there. Truly lovely, supportive people.
