I think that’s sort of the challenge if you live in one of the not so nice neighborhoods. Do you go to the 3 houses giving out candy in your own neighborhood or do you give up and go somewhere else? 🙁 I think it’s really sad. The sense of community is so important!

We have a variety of safe trick-or-treating events here. Another popular thing is for the kids from less nice neighborhoods to be driven to the nice neighborhoods and go trick-or-treating there. To me these all kind of defeat the purpose of interacting with your OWN neighbors on Halloween… isn’t that part of it? I was never actually allowed to celebrate Halloween as a kid but I like the idea of going around our own neighborhood, which we plan to do this year. But I don’t even know if there will be anyone handing out candy since we live in one of the less nice neighborhoods!
