Apparently I made it into a top 50 list. Woohoo! 🙂
This is such a cool infographic. It shows how many of us there are, where we are, and also how powerful we are.
The thing I find most amazing about our community is how much we rely and depend on each other for information. In our modern world, where parents often live far apart from their families and in detached communities where people don’t even the neighbors living a few houses down, a lot of the community wisdom and support that mothers once received while raising children has been lost. Blogs run by other parents in many ways fill those gaps, with product reviews and recommendations, by sharing perspectives and tips on child-rearing, with sympathy and advice getting through tough situations and loss, and with enthusiasm and love through triumphs and successes.
Being far apart from my family and not having a lot of mom friends in my circle, I’ve relied heavily on the online community of parents for help and support. I think it’s wonderful that parents have found a way to adapt to a world that could be incredibly isolating and difficult for them, through blogs and forums and social media. These things are often treated as frivolous, but they can be incredibly powerful.
A lot of my favorites are on this list. I hope you find this as interesting as I do!
