Balance, that is.
It didn’t take long after returning to work for me to return to my old workaholic ways. I’m up to my eyeballs in a new project (and loving it!) and working long hours.
Having a baby changes things, of course. No longer do I keep working from 5 PM straight on through dinner and bedtime. I close the work laptop at 5 these days and try to cram in as much time with Isla before she conks out for the night. But once she’s back in bed, I’m back to work.
I’ve never been very good at the whole work-life balance thing. Having a baby has forced me to remember my life outside of work more than I did before, because I want and need to spend time with my child. Every. Single. Day.
Still, I feel like now, things are more hectic than ever. My day is filled from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep, which is always way too late, with things that have to get done. Whether that’s work or taking care of Isla or trying to stay on top of my usual household chores or working on my blog.
Now that I’m a mom, I feel like I get more done in an hour on any given day than I did in a full day most days before I was a parent. Every single hour is important–too important to waste doing nothing.
Do you manage to have balance in your life as a parent? If so, how on earth do you do it?
