Ian is 2/3 of the way to being 2. 😩
I don’t have much to offer up by way of stats. He’s put on a couple of pounds in the last few months, but most of his growth has been concentrated in the upward direction. I don’t remember exactly what his height was at his last appointment back in October, but he was nearly 70th percentile for height. That was a surprise given he’s always been on the shorter side, but he’s had a big growth spurt in the last few months. People are generally surprised by his age, because he’s kind of a tank. He also got his first real hair cut recently. 😭😭😭 He was instantly transformed from baby to kid in one 10-minute trip to the salon.
He has a lot more words. He says “help me” a lot, along with “yeah” and “nooo!” He’s loved our Christmas trees this year, and can say “Christmas tree” and demands we turn them on if they are off. He does the same with the outdoor lights. He will ask for books and his toy barn. He says “ee i ee i ee i!” when he wants to sing Old MacDonald. He knows some animal names and sounds. He says “moo” for cow, “kih-kih” and “meow” for kitty, and “waaaay” for horse. “Bubbles” are a big one for bath time, “cooking” for anything that goes on in the kitchen (our real one, his play one, or even his sister’s Barbie kitchen), and “eat” of course. I’m sure there are more, but I’m drawing a blank.
He definitely understands a lot more words. If you ask him if he wants most foods, he knows what you’re talking about, and he knows most of his body parts at this point.
He loves to play Isla’s ukelele and generally just seems to enjoy music. He also loves playing with any sort of doll house, play kitchen, or anything with buttons that lights up and makes noise. He’s starting to be willing to sit still for books, which makes me super happy. His favorite right now is “Time to Say Bye Bye” by Maryann Cocca-Leffler.
You may have noticed a recurring them of Ian caring a lot about food. He’s still an eater and not very picky, but he is a massive grump if he’s hungry. He’ll make you seriously regret forgetting snack time or running late on a meal.
He’s a good sleeper. We generally get 11-12 hours/night and another hour or two during the day. He’s almost always happy to see his bed at night, and giggles (sort of hysterically) when you put him down and cover him up.
He’s very expressive. If he’s uncertain, he’ll tuck his chin and give you dubious eyebrows and back away slowly. If he’s angry, he flops on his back and screams bloody murder. If he’s happy, he’s got the biggest, sweetest grin. Most of the time, though, he just has this “deep thoughts” look on his face. It’s pretty funny.
Time just keeps blazing by. I’m in total denial that he’s not a baby anymore.
